The Ground is Holy…
It was a spring day in the early 1980’s, I was walking from my hostel, in St Stephen’s College Delhi, out towards the foresty area called the ridge. As I did so my attention was on my feet, and my feet registered something unusual. A different relationship with the land. The land felt soft. Was it that it had rained? No. The land felt soft as if it had a spring to it. As if I was walking on elephant grass. Was I walking on elephant grass? No. Paved road. As I walked I began to realize that the land could feel my feet. And there was a responsiveness. It was answering back. I was not walking on ground. I was walking on the breast of the earth. And as that realization filled me, the whole experience deepened… I am bird in its fist, branch of its mighty spread… The Land beneath my feet and yours is alive. That’s the truth.
A few years ago in 2014, I was laying out a set of poems of my sister, Talitha Mathew, Poet & Mystic, when I delighted in a sentence in her foreword: Speaking of her collection of poems Crossing The Kidron, she wrote “This is a long-delayed effort to share the little that I have seen, of one who knows me very well. It all started one day when I was hurrying home, and I realized the land I was standing on really was holy ground”.
Tarun’s mother lived in the Nilgiris during the golden years of her life, perched on the shoulder of a hill, a cottage draped in Lantana, fuchsias, marigold, snow bushes, Christmas flowers, and flowers with hues not yet discovered. There she composed songs and communed with God. ‘The closest I have experienced God’ she said ‘was once on a picnic with two cliffs and mist streaming down like an ethereal waterfall and I could feel the outer grandeur and inner wondrousness meet.’
Gift #1: Creator’s Child Land Sensing Aura Tip: When sensing the energy of land masses a fine way to make a strong connection is to put your left hand on the ground.

Now there are many mildly varied statements that we have made, ‘The Land is Alive’, ‘The land is Holy Ground’, and ‘We stand on the breast of The Earth’, The Earth can be Chalice of God’.
As we look at the statements we realize that sometimes if we say we stand on the breast of the earth it gives a sweety-sweety cuddly feeling. And yes it can be that way. Very teddy-bearish. But the thing most forget is bears have claws.
The Mountain Spirit is No TeddyBear…
Her face was pale, drawn, anguished… What had happened to this otherwise robust trekker, IT pro and spiritualist? A deep aura scan Celia & I did showed that a presence had intruded into her consciousness when she was in a white field with a dark cave {White? Snow? Flowers?}. Yes, Shanvi* confirmed she had come from a mountain trip and had suddenly fallen ill, when close to a mountain cave. We identified the mountain presence and had escorted out of Shanvi. It was like a weight had lifted. Shanvi* got better.
More recently a mother Amita called about her daughter falling desperately ill in the mountains. Again it was two nature spirits that intruded. A land spirit fragment and tree being. This was more difficult and portions are near impossible to remove.
Gift #2: Aura Tip: Protect Yourself: When sensing the energy of land masses ensure you say your protection mantra.
Gift #3: Healer Protect Yourself: When giving healing to someone you feel has been impacted by a land mass, like a mountain, river, tree, marsh, wrap your left forearm with white or brown cloth, chant core sound ru over the cloth. Now visualize two mountains meeting one descending from the clouds, one rising from the earth. The cloth has been strangely charged. Keep it for more healings. After you have finshed healing the person bury it in the earth/flowerpot for 3 days.
So, when one talks of The Breast of The Mother or Holy Ground, we have to realize we are walking away from Cuddly=Good. The Land can be alive, very alive, can be focused on a spirit but those spirits are not always sweet.
Uh? Why?
Land Spirits Can Have Good Reason To Be Grumpy…

Have you ever spent an hour with a chatterbox, someone who jabbers away, is constantly jumping from topic A to Z. Well, that is how we can be to Mountain Spirits. Our train to Goa a few years ago halted in the middle of a tunnel. Dark, many panicked. We used the opportunity to talk to the Mountain. ‘Hmm, why bee-buzzing, banshee-screeching so many?’ It said. Meaning why is everyone screaming? We explained people were panicking. ‘But I have not squashied them?’ It replied. ‘Many monds ago {Decades} a bads cut the me-mountain, don’t like.’ Meaning someone dug a tunnel in my shoulder am absolutely livid as a result. So yeah I do consider crushing this line but it takes time for me to act and think.’ Thankfully the Mountain didn’t crush our train that day.
2 decades ago, Shekhar and Monica were doing an advanced healing course. One of the exercises was to connect to the stone and talk to it. Shekhar got the stone’s origin. But also anguish for it had been torn from rock and one part of it felt this separation with great anguish, like a child ripped from its mother.

A decade ago, Sonia had called us to a rented flat in Koramangala. It wasn’t large but there was a dense, heavy ugly presence. As we looked around we sensed in the balcony a dense heavy presence. What was it? A hill presence that was erased as Bangalore was developed. It had wandered 20 years and latched on to Sonia as her presence comforted. We took it out of the home and relocated it. If you had your whole country devastated by an alien species, your home destroyed, body ravaged, friends cut up you would be less than overjoyed with humans.
Shamans and mystics from across the earth have spoken of the earth being alive, woven with spirits, the truth is we are not always kind to the Earth.
Gift #4: Offer The Land a Gift: When connecting to a land mass, like a mountain, river, tree, marsh, giving a gift like a little sugar is advisable.

Love is a Universal Currency…
On the way to Bangalore airport, was a hill that was being devoured by us human termites. And as I talked to the land spirit assaulted by progress, on impulse I invited its spirit into my being. Yes, the Butchered Hill, billions of years old, composed of trillions of creatures and impossible mosaics of memories found a tiny psychic patch to nest in. Was it a wise thing to do? Promptly days after I tripped and fell, as a pavement stone and Hill spirit realized affinity and my feet lost their footing. Then there can be days when I taste the Hill’s deep brooding anguish. It is more terrible than being part of a defeated nation. But there are great little gifts. I can feel sun with the delight of a pebble. Feel wind with naked joy of hill-shushed grass. {Now this is a forbidden healing and we teach it only to those who have done 7 levels if not more.}
Different But Enriching…
Yes, mountain spirits and land spirits are not sweet, have different perspectives, and can sometimes even be antagonistic to humans, that said, being able to connect to a mountain spirit, a land spirit can be hugely rewarding. Even life-enriching, Planet-saving.
Locating The Lost. For example, a flash flood in the mountains swept a man away. Was he dead or alive. By talking to a mountain spirit we could locate his dead body. It did not save him, it gave closure.

Architectural Advice. In another case, someone building a home on a mountain slope was advised to change the proposed location. A few years later there was a landslip where he had first proposed to build the property.
Murder and Peace. In another bone-chilling case, a man had been murdered in a mountain home, the location meant that the spirit had awakened a Land Spirit which made the whole home feel menacing… We had to pacify the land…
Celebrating The Caring Mountain. The other day we were flipping through the calendar looking at official holidays, only to come across one with a delightful name – Tendong Lho Rum Faat Festival. Piqued by the name we discovered it is a Sikkimese festival that gives thanks to Mount Tedong for saving a region plagued by a deluge that threatened to destroy a kingdom. We now include an image of the Mountain and ask you to connect with The Mountain Spirit and ask What if anything The Mountain had done for the people.

Calming The Earthquake. While we are talking about this some of you may recall how advanced Seeker Rakesh helped calm a land spirit on the verge of an earthquake. Others would recall how another deep seeker encountered an earthquake spirit. The EarthQuake Beast
Others may recall a host of gifts in The Gifts of The Socialist Earth Goddess! by Kuldeepak N.
Spiritual Awakening…
But perhaps the greatest gift we can receive from Mountain Spirits is when we embrace them as spiritual beings, welcome them as teachers.

Pre Earth Spirit. Roughly in 2015 we had gone on a temple pilgrimage with Chitra, Vikram and Shweta. Let the temples and region remain nameless. As we stepped into one of the temples at the inner sanctum, a rock was enshrined in the temple as key idol. It seemed to vibrate with power, shaking the whole neighbourhood.

“Who and what are you?” we had asked the rock. “I am a primal being, one who helped form the solar system and galaxy…. One part of me wrapped itself in space to shape the solar system. That part became emeshed in the birth of planets, and when a collision occurred I was embedded in your planet… I have enriched the earth send out messages… quicken creation and destruction… I am in close connect with my greater matrix… However with fewer freedoms… I am not really connected with Humans, though humans worship me, I renew their nagas… will to live and survive… I live in a very deep place, deeper than existence, deeper than hells… and so for those trapped in hells… I can free them… I am also prayed to by some lizardish ‘alien intelligences’ abandoned on earth… I bind earth, help a conversation occur between mineral minds, deep in the earth…”
Drinking with Mountain Spirits. Frankly, Napoleon Brandy doesn’t come close. And single malts are mouthwash in comparison. In comparison to what?
As we had spoken earlier Tarun’s Mom lived in the Nilgiris and one of the best ways up was a car drive, especially with Buffy on our laps, head stuck out of the window… as we drove up over the last few decades we began to get to know the mountain spirits. And they began to trust us. We gradually became friends. And so once, we were invited to share the heart of their existence. The deeper we went into their realm the more fluid, open-ended things became. My head became antlered and branched, here running with a rabbit, there shaking rain off, there turning earth rich, there fang sinking into flesh, there singing in a mountain breeze… As Celia & I went deeper still we became part of a great echoing circle, a vast underground chamber that resonated with millions of years of history. Then the mountain spirits great shambling beings pulled out, what looked like mead or wine. You did not taste it, it tasted you… Wrapped wreathed, melted, melting… we became like rivers, tongues of time tasting the very essence of aliveness, gathered over million years of joyous living…
But you dear Reader say, aaah, I know what it feels like for you have felt it yourself on a beach by a stream, in a storm… Others would recall the deep oneness Vasundhara encountered with the land spirit in Glorious Earth Shaktis and the Chance to Heal Climate Change! Others will say I remember Amita P experiencing something like this tasting the richness of her estate…
The simple truth is, connecting to land spirits can take the clothes off this world, to penetrate deep the secrets of flesh and star…
Understanding a Land, Healing with its Power. Swati* had come from a trip, an extended one. She felt something strange on her shoulder, weird with her perception. As we looked at her we saw a being, half wombat perched on her shoulder. What was it? The spirit of the land she had visited. In the healing we let Swati see the land spirit and begin to befriend it. It offers her a greater vaster being, abilities to heal she is just stumbling towards. One day, she may heal with its power… What can she do? Heal bone that’s welcome… Heal Land, now that would be something…
Blazing Mountain, Waking Spirits: Celia and I were on our way to Pondicherry, along the way at night we pass a set of rocky hills… perhaps at midnight I felt a thud, then another, another… High above, we see flame… as if the whole landscape was on fire, as if it were being formed, as if it were bursting with lava, as it touched us, our chakras tingled, heads opened vast and great galaxies of flame wheeled about our heads… It was both heavy as a herd of elephants and as graceful as a ballerinas… On and on, hour after hour… we were pulled, pushed, opened and transformed…
Just a Month ago Ravi shared his experience of The Devi temple in Ladakh, in The Devi, Temple & The Dream.and she had spoken how land can be a focus of power: “There is a land mass, energy portal activity at Spituk. Around this has grown a shrine, a temple, a monastery. This space was the focus of a particular dynamic of worship-remembrance, by varied spiritual sects with related but differing belief structures in the closer past: 20,000 years ago, 15,000 years ago, 6000 years ago, 1000 years ago, 250 years ago, and 12 years ago.”
Yes, Ground is not just alive, dense, strong, possessed with incredible senses, capable of bestowing great gifts, but hidden in its seeming obduracy is explosive Cosmocity… is the Divine… wearing stony fingers…

And as we stand here… you realize… hey wow… this article has been a spectacular journey… And you look around… And like Amita S you take one more step { remember reading Living in God.}… Like her you realize before us are not just mountains… But surrounding us is God…
